"A
Christmas Story, The Musical" Company To Include Original Broadway Cast Members "A Christmas Story, The Musical" will be putting up its holiday tree at the Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre for a limited engagement, running November 20 - December 8. The cherished movie classic that enchanted millions is now a musical. In 1940’s Indiana, a bespectacled boy named Ralphie has a big imagination and one wish for Christmas -- a . A kooky leg lamp, outrageous pink bunny pajamas, a cranky department store Santa, and a tripledog-dare to lick a freezing flagpole are just a few of the obstacles that stand between Ralphie and his Christmas dream. Co-produced by the film’s original Ralphie, Peter Billingsley, "A Christmas Story, The Musical" is the musical comedy that captures a simpler time in America. Based on the writings and heartfelt memories of radio humorist Jean Shepherd, Ralphie’s imagination bursts to life on stage in numbers like “Ralphie to the Rescue,” “You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out” and heartwarming ballads like “What a Mother Does” and the title song, “A Christmas Story.” Several original cast members will return to star in the touring production, including Dan Lauria (“Lombardi,“ “The Wonder Years,” “Sullivan and Son”) as Jean Shepherd, John Bolton (“Spamalot,“ “Contact,“ “Titanic,“ “Boardwalk Empire,” “Gossip Girl") as the Old Man, Tony Award nominee Erin Dilly (“Nice Work if You Can Get It,“ “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang") as Mother, and Caroline O’Connor (“Chicago,“ “Moulin Rouge") as school teacher Miss Shields. Talented newcomer to the production Jake Lucas ("Newsies," "Far From Heaven"), will be donning the famous spectacles as he takes on the lead role of Ralphie. "A Christmas Story, The Musical" was nominated for three 2013 Tony Awards including Best Musical. The musical's bright, nostalgic score is by composer/lyricist team Benj Pasek and Justin Paul with a witty book by Joseph Robinette. Tony Award winner John Rando ("Urinetown") directs with choreography by Warren Carlyle ("Chaplin," "Follies," "An Evening With Hugh Jackman"). In its 2012 New York City engagement, “A Christmas Story,“ The Musical" was both a popular and critical success, breaking house box office records. The Associated Press called “A Christmas Story, The Musical" a joyous Christmas miracle,” while The New York Times added “I was dazzled. You’d have to have a Grinch-sized heart not to feel a smile spreading across your face.” The New York Post said, "Fans of the movie can breathe easy. ... 'A Christmas Story, The Musical' has legs. The charming musical succeeds." For information and tickets, stop by the box office at 270 Tremont Street, call 866- 348-9738 or visit www.citicenter.org. -- OnStage Boston 08-10-13
