Ted Neeley At Citi Wang
In Farewell "Superstar" Appearance

"Superstar" fans listen us. Your final opportunity to see Ted Neeley in Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking musical, "Jesus Christ Superstar," comes May 7 - 9 at the Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre.

"Jesus Christ Superstar" is, of course, the epic musical retelling of the last seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. Recounting the story of men and women driven to their fate by forces beyond their control, this unique musical remains as relevant, accessible and compelling today as when it was written.

While Ted Neeley has enjoyed a distinguished career in theater around the world, appearing in diverse roles from "Hair" to Samuel Beckett, he is internationally renowned for the title role in "Jesus Christ Superstar." His performance as Jesus in the Norman Jewison film version earned him a Golden Globe nomination.

Nearly forty years after opening on Broadway, this astonishing musical is back, proving that few musicals since have been able to touch audiences with quite the same impact or emotional intensity.

Acclaimed as a theatrical triumph at the time of its premiere, "Jesus Christ Superstar" is packed with hit songs including “I Don’t Know How To Love Him,” “Could We Start Again Please” and of course, the title number. Driving rock rhythms, energetic power chords and heart searing ballads combine to create a haunting score.

Director Dallett Norris ("Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "South Pacific") commented, "What could be better than having Ted Neeley, so grand in the film, on board as we delve into Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s brilliant musical telling of this timeless story. Their idea of setting this tale in terms that immediately resonate with today's audiences is revolutionary. Here we are, twenty-one centuries later, and it is oh, so clear: we need the message of this story now more than ever."

Performances are Friday at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday at 3 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. For tickets and information, stop by the box office on Tremont Street, call 866-348-9738 or visit www.citicenter.org.
