To Include "42nd Street," "Camelot" and "Forum"
Goodspeed
Musicals, the only two time Tony Award-winning
theater in the nation, has announced its 46th season at the venerable
Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Connecticut.
Produced by Michael P. Price, the 2009
season will include the dazzling Broadway song and dance extravaganza
"42nd Street," from April 17 – June 28;
Lerner & Loewe’s legendary "Camelot,"
from July 10 – September 19; and the zany ancient musical adventure
"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,"
from September 25 – November 29. Tickets for all productions go
on sale Sunday, February 22.
"42nd Street"
This is the ultimate Broadway fairy tale as a stage-struck understudy
becomes a star over night. Winner of the Tony Award winner
for Best Musical in 19xx "42nd Street" features music by
Harry Warren, lyrics by Al Dubin, and a book
by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble.
Packed with sparkle and plenty of tapping feet, the score features a hit
parade of songs including “Lullaby of Broadway,” “We’re
In The Money,” “Shuffle Off To Buffalo,” and
of course the dazzling title number. The production will be directed by
Ray Roderick who returns to Goodspeed where he directed
the 2007 production of "Singin’ in the Rain"
as well as "Double Trouble" in 2001. Roderick’s
other credits include Associate Director of the 2001 Broadway revival
of "The Music Man." "42nd Street"
will be choreographed by Rick Conant.
"Camelot"
Experience the legendary, “one brief shining moment" musical
tale of King Arthur, Guenevere, Lancelot and the Knights of the Round
Table. The enchanting fable of chivalry, honor and brotherhood boasts
the celebrated musical numbers, “If Ever I Would Leave You,”
“The Simple Joys of Maidenhood,” "C'est Moi," "The
Seven Deadly Virtues," The Lusty Month Of May," “Camelot,”
and more. Winner of 4 Tony Awards, "Camelot"
features music by Frederick Loewe with book and lyrics
by Alan Jay Lerner. "Camelot" will be directed
by Rob Ruggiero of Goodspeed’s "1776
" and "Big River."
"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum"
It's tragedy tomorrow, but comedy tonight as a thoroughly disarming slave
named Pseudolus schemes to secure his freedom by helping his master’s
son win over the girl he desires. It’s a comic whirl of mistaken
identities, swinging doors, double takes and outrageous puns. Winner of
the Tony Award for Best Musical, "Forum"
features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim with a
book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart.
The production will be directed and choreographed by Ted Pappas
whose previous Goodspeed Musicals credits include "On the
Twentieth Century," "Kiss Me, Kate," "Promises, Promises,"
and The Norma Terris Theatre production of "Gotham!"
Dedicated to the preservation and advancement of musical
theater, Goodspeed Musicals produces three musicals each season at the
Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Connecticut, with additional productions
