Publick Theatre's 38th Season
Features Chekov and Coward in Repertory

The Publick Theatre will mark its 38th outdoor season at Christopher Herter Park with the premiere of a new translation by Diego Arciniegas of Anton Chekov’s dark comedy "The Seagull," running July 3 - September 7. Noel Coward’s witty "Hay Fever" will follow, opening July 24 and playing through September 14. The two plays will run in repertory.

The Publick Theatre is located along the banks of The Charles River in Christian Herter Park on Soldiers Field Road directly across the street from WBZ-TV. Pre-performance picnics are encouraged, and beverages and snacks are available for purchase. The theatre is fully wheelchair accessible and has acres of free parking.

July 3 - September 7
Anton Chekhov’s "The Seagull"

Chekhov’s classic emerges as a complex, dark comedy wrapped within the powerful tendons of unrequited love, jealousy and artistic ambition. On a fading country estate in rural Russia, celebrated artists, their family and servants weigh their lives -- hoping either to defy the obstacles to their dreams or find comfort in facing the inevitable. A delicate balance of levity and drama reveals a surprising kinship to more contemporary comedies of stage and screen.

The "Seagull" cast includes Anthony Cascio, Joel Colodner, Lynn Guerra, Dennis Trainor, Jr., Debra Lund, Ross MacDonald, Susanne Nitter, Dafydd Reese, Robert Serrell, Tyler Reilly and Hannah Wilson.

July 24 - September 14
Noel Coward’s "Hay Fever"

A weekend with the unconventional Bliss family proves to be anything but paradise for a quartet of bewildered guests in this domestic comedy by the incomparable Noel Coward. Actress Judith Bliss has once again retired from the London stage, but days spent in the garden of her country home are growing tedious. To perk her spirits, she’s invited an adoring male fan to spend the weekend. Little does she know her novelist husband and both her children have company of their own on the way. The house soon overflows with people and agendas, and, as the family’s artistic temperaments surface, the bewildered guests get an unvarnished look into the surreal lives of the creative class.

The "Hay Fever" cast includes Joel Colodner, Lynn Guerra, Debra Lund, Ross MacDonald, Dafydd Reese, Joanna Stevens, Cheryl Turski and Hannah Wilson.

Both shows will be directed by Publick Theatre Artistic Director Diego Arciniegas. For information and tickets, call 617-454-1444 or visit www.publicktheatre.com.

Special Preview Week Pricing
The Publick will offer $10 in-advance pricing ($15 at the door) to each of its preview performances -- July 3- 6 for "The Seagull" and July 24 - 27 for "Hay Fever."
