Apollinaire Theatre Company Presents
Free Theatre in the Park
In English and Spanish

Stoppard and Sorkin To Be Highlighted

Apollinaire Theatre Company (formerly TheatreZone) is celebrating its sixth season offering New England's only bilingual free summer theater in the park. This summer's schedule includes "The Real Inspector House" ("El Verdadero Inspector Sabueso") by Tom Stoppard, and "Hidden In This Picture" ("Escondido en la Imagen") by Aaron Sorkin.

Presented on a double bill from July 9-26, the productions will be staged environmentally in multiple locations in Mary O'Malley Park, Commandant's Way, on the Chelsea Waterfront in Chelsea. English performances are Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Spanish performances are Fridays and Sundays.

Previous summer bilingual shows have included "The Wedding," "The House of Bernarda Alba," "The Seagull," "Rhinoceros" by Eugene Ionesco, and "The Visit."

"The Real Inspector Hound" (photo above) follows two theatre critics watching a ludicrous send-up of a country house murder mystery, with their personal desires and obsessions interwoven into their pompous reviews. By chance, they become involved in the action with results that prove surprisingly serious for both.

Tom Stoppard is both a British Academy Award winning screenwriter and Tony Award winning playwright. His first major success, "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead," was produced in London in 1967 at the Old Vic. His more recent successes include "The Coast of Utopia," "Arcadia," "Rock ‘N’ Roll," and the screenplay for "Shakespeare in Love."

In Aaron Sorkin’s one-act satire "Hidden In This Picture," a film director contemplates his final shot: 694 Marines running down a hill at sunset. Weeks behind schedule, millions over budget, and with no retake possible, what’s a director to do when three cows join the action?

Sorkin's TV credits include the Golden Globe-nominated "The West Wing," "Sports Night" and the recent "Studio 60." "Hidden in This Picture" debuted in 1988 at the West Bank Cafe Downstairs Theater Bar. In 1989, he received the prestigious Outer Critics Circle Award as Outstanding American Playwright for the stage version of "A Few Good Men," which was later nominated for a Golden Globe.
