Reagle Players'
"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat"
To Feature "Idol's" Ayla Brown

"American Idol" Season Five finalist and Boston resident Ayla Brown (left) will play The Narrator in the Reagle Players' production of the imaginative Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice Old Testament tale, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."

Kicking off the 40th anniversary season celebration for Reagle, the popular musical runs June 13 - 21 at The Robinson Theater, 617 Lexington Street in Waltham.

Joseph will be played by Broadway’s Eric Kunze, who recently starred at The Wang Theatre in the national tour of Webber’s "Whistle Down The Wind" (at left). Kunze has previously appeared as Joseph as well as in the title role in "Jesus Christ Superstar."  His Broadway credits include principal roles in "Les Miserables," "Miss Saigon" and "Damn Yankees."

Ayla’s "American Idol" journey began in 2005, in line at Gillette Stadium, where she waited 18 hours, in the rain, to sing.  True to Gillette Stadium’s winning tradition, she emerged an audition winner, moving quickly onto the national scene. After many weeks on the television show and surviving a series of competitive cuts, she finished 13th out of 150,000 talented fifth season competitors.

Since her appearance on "Idol," Ayla has made numerous local appearances including singing the National Anthem at Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, Celtics and NE Revolution games, and appearing at the Kiss 108 concert at The Tweeter Center.  Additionally, she appeared with Keith Lockhart and The Boston Pops at their traditional Fourth of July celebration on the Esplanade.

The 19-year-old Brown is a native of Wrentham where she lives with her family.  Her father is Massachusetts State Senator, Scott P. Brown, and her mother, Gail Huff, is a news reporter for  WCVB-TV.

Written in the late 60's, "Joseph" began as a 15 minute piece for school children.  It was eventually expanded into a full stage production, opening on Broadway in 1982.  Subsequent revivals and national tours have kept the show a popular choice for families, with the musical telling the story of Joseph and his 11 jealous brothers through parodies of rock, western and disco themes.  The score includes the hits "Any Dream Will Do" and "Close Any Door."

The most recent large-scale production in London cast its lead through a reality show called "Any Dream Will Do," which allowed  British television viewers to vote for their favorite performers.
