Free Shakespeare Returns
With "As You Like It"

July 18 - August 3 On The Common

Citi Performing Arts Center has announced that Free Shakespeare will return for an extended three week run on Boston Common this summer. Citi is the new corporate presenting sponsor for the program.

As You Like It,” directed by Steven Maler, founding artistic director of Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, will be staged at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common July 18 - August 3.

Following the Boston run, the production will travel to Springfield, playing in the Forest Park amphitheater, August 8 - 10. This marks the 13th summer production from Commonwealth Shakespeare on The Common.

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino commented, "I applaud Joe Spaulding and the Citi Performing Arts Center for bringing broad based free public programming to the City of Boston. The Common is perfect backdrop for Shakespeare. I hope everyone will take advantage and join us for 'As You Like It' this summer."

Anne Greenwood, Citi Boston Market Leader stated, “We are proud to support this free program for the Boston community. At Citi, we are committed to making a difference in the communities where we work and live.”

Citi Performing Arts Center President and CEO Josiah A. Spaulding, Jr. added, “We are excited to once again present Free Shakespeare in Boston this coming summer, and in touring to Springfield. With the support of Citi and funds from state government, we are more than doubling the number of performances, including our open dress rehearsals and Celebrate Shakespeare Day.”

The 3rd annual Celebrate Shakespeare Day, a program of Citi Performing Arts Center’s Education Department, will be held on Saturday, August 2, also at the Parkman Bandstand. Celebrate Shakespeare Day is a multi-faceted free event featuring workshops, performances, backstage tours, and lectures for the public to enjoy and learn more about the works of William Shakespeare.

Further information will be available closer to performance dates.
