Huntington Strikes Gold --Again

Just in time to brighten the holidays, Emmy Award-winning comedian Judy Gold is being brought back to Boston by the Huntington Theatre Company to present “Judy Gold is ‘Mommy Queerest.’” Performances are December 26 – 31 at the Calderwood Pavilion. She last appeared at the Huntington in her triumphant “25 Questions for a Jewish Mother.”

In this new show, Judy divulges all of the comic highs and lows of being a Jewish, lesbian, working mom raising two boys in New York City. “As scary as it was being raised by one Jewish mother,” Gold says, “I have to feel for my kids because they have two Jewish mothers.”

Huntington Theatre's Artistic Director Peter DuBois commented, “Judy is an incredible human being of surprising insight who also happens to be screamingly funny. An evening of her stand-up is a real opportunity to let those deep belly laughs go. With ‘Mommy Queerest,’ we take another step toward transforming the Calderwood into a hub of eclectic artistic activity in Boston. By energizing our Huntington Presents series with world class stand-up comedy, we are expanding our activities beyond traditional theatre infusing the Huntington with new energy.”

“Judy Gold is ‘Mommy Queerest’” has been presented at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City as part of the New York Comedy Festival. She received a 2006 Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Solo Performance for “25 Questions for a Jewish Mother.” In addition, the show received a 2007 GLAAD Award for Best Play. “25 Questions” has also been produced at Ars Nova in New York City, the Montreal Comedy Festival, and the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach.

In addition to having co-hosted ABC’s “The View,” Judy was seen in the documentary “Making Trouble” as well as the smash hit film “The Aristocrats.” In addition to appearing in a half-hour comedy special for LOGO, she also hosts HBO’s “At the Multiplex with Judy Gold,” and has helmed both Comedy Central’s “100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time” and the “GLAAD Media Awards.” She's also featured in the HBO documentary, “All Aboard! Rosie’s Family Cruise.”

In addition to receiving a Cable Ace Award for her HBO special, she won two Emmy Awards for writing and producing “The Rosie O’Donnell Show.” She was also nominated twice for the American Comedy Award’s funniest female stand-up.

Judy lives in New York City with her two children, Henry and Ben. She'd like you to know that the book version of “25 Questions for a Jewish Mother” and her CD, “Judith’s Roommate Had a Baby” are available in stores now.
