Jonathan Larson's "tick, tick…BOOM!"
At Downstage @ New Rep
September 22 - October 21

New Repertory Theatre will kick off its second season of Downstage @ New Rep in the Black Box Theater with Jonathan Larson’s rock musical "tick, tick…BOOM!"

After a highly successful first season, Downstage @ New Rep has expanded its programming to bring new, edgy and controversial works to audiences eager for a thought-provoking experience. "tick, tick…BOOM!" plays September 22 - October 21.  New Repertory Theatre is in residence at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, at 321 Arsenal Street in  Watertown.

In this precursor to his ground-breaking "Rent," Jonathan Larson weaves an autobiographical account of Jon, a 30-year-old waiter struggling to survive in New York. As Jon attempts to write the great American musical, his friends seem to be finding easy success in their careers, leaving him behind. Written with contemporary music and inspirational lyrics, "tick, tick…BOOM! "explores the difficult themes of self-doubt and fear of failure while celebrating the determination of following your dreams in spite of all odds.

Rick Lombardo, New Rep’s Producing Artistic Director, commented, “Downstage @ New Rep is a wonderful way for us to reach a younger audience. This musical is fun and contemporary, and we hope it will bring a new audience to the New Rep family.”

Directed and choreographed by Stephen Nachamie, "tick, tick…BOOM!" will feature Aimee Doherty.  Doherty will be familiar to Boston audiences for her work in New Rep's "Ragtime" and "Cinderella" in addition to performances at Lyric Stage ("See What I Wanna See") and SpeakEasy Stage ("The Women," "Company" and "Bubbly Black Girl") .
