Following the success of 2004 – 2005 production
of Agatha Christie’s "The Mousetrap," Stoneham
Theatre has announced the return of the “queen of the
murder mystery” to the stage with "And Then There
Were None," May 10 – May 27. Stoneham
Theatre is located at 395 Main Street in Stoneham.
Historians tell us that in 1939, Christie brought new interest and
excitement to the mystery novel genre with the publication of Ten
Little Indians. Intelligent and suspenseful, it quickly
became a best seller and was subsequently adapted for the stage as
"And Then There Were None," the closing line of the nursery
rhyme for which the novel was named. With the novel widely acclaimed
for its “insolvability,” Christie herself considered its
plot to be her greatest achievement.
In "And Then There Were None," 10 guests arrive for a weekend
holiday on an isolated island only to find a missing host, an intriguing
nursery rhyme and murder. The guests, with apparently nothing in common,
hear a disembodied voice during cocktails that accuses each of hiding
a terrible secret. That night one of the guests dies. The tension
escalates as the guests soon realize that not only is there a killer
lurking on the island, but that he or she has plans to strike again
and again and again.
Director Caitlin Lowans commented, “Christie’s
play thoroughly entertains because it works on so many levels -- humor,
suspense and even romance.”
She added, “The audience gets drawn in by the
familiar, archetypal characters and the innate desire to resolve their
circumstance, but alas, Christie keeps them guessing until the very
end. Mysteries are some of the most fun, interactive experiences
an audience can have and we hope this will be just that.”
The cast includes Stephen Russell , Jack Neary, Colin Kiley,
Shelley Bolman, Danny Marchant , Ann Marie Shea, Eve Passeltiner,
Gene Fleming, Steven Barkhimer, Anastasia Barnes and
Robert Najrarian.
