North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) in Beverly
will kick off its 2007 Musical Season with an all new production of
"Crazy For You," a tap musical in the style
of NSMT’s hit production of "Singin’ in the
Rain." Performances are April 24 – May 13.
The
musical focuses on the adventures of a stage-struck New York City playboy
in a Nevada mining town, where romance, mistaken identities and show-stopping
musical numbers all add up to inevitable fun. Winner of three
1992 Tony Awards, including Best Musical,
"Crazy For You" includes such memorable Gershwin songs as
“Embraceable You,” “I Got Rhythm” and
“Someone to Watch Over Me.”
Jon Kimbell, NSMT’s Artistic Director and Executive
Producer commented, “This Gershwin favorite is the perfect example
of the big American musical, complete with spectacular tap numbers,
a terrific musical score and outrageous humor. 2007 is the year of big
productions at NSMT, and 'Crazy for You' sets the stage perfectly for
the season.”
Jeffry Denman stars as Bobby Child with Amanda
Watkins as Polly Baker. Denman made his Broadway debut
in the revival of "How To Succeed in Business..."
starring Matthew Broderick; other Broadway credits
include the original cast of Mel Brooks' "The Producers,"
the Johnny Mercer musical review "Dream,"
and the final cast of "Cats." Most recently,
he played Jenkins in the Encores! production of "Of Thee
I Sing" starring Victor Garber and directed
by John Rando. Amanda Watkins is fresh
off the national tour of "Sweet Charity"
playing Nickie, a role that she portrayed in the Broadway production
as well. Her other Broadway and tour credits include "Urinetown,"
"Cabaret," "Grease," "Cats,""Beauty
and the Beast" and South Pacific (opposite
Robert Goulet).
