Gelston House To Reopen This Spring

Fans of the venerable Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Connecticut, will be interested to learn that The Gelston House, the restaurant adjacent to the theater and overlooking The Connecticut River, is set to reopen this spring with the start of the Goodspeed’s 2007 musical season.

The historic Gelston House, the site of a restaurant and tavern since 1736, and whose existing structure was built in 1853, will reopen as a “fine american bistro” under the direction of Iso Dedusaj, former manager of Manhattan’s celebrated Cafe Un Deux Trois.

In addition to the full-service fine dining menu and “tavern” menu, The Gelston House will include a special “Prix Fixe” selection for theatregoers. There will also be a late-night menu (available after 9:30 p.m.) featuring lighter fare, appealing to those who wish to continue their evening after the performance

Plans call for the interior of the landmark restaurant to be completely remodeled with a unique look combining modern decor with period pieces. Included in the new layout will be an intimate lounge are beneath the Grand Staircase and an outdoor bistro where the well known Riverside Beer Garden once stood.

The restaurant will seat 350 guests and be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. The restaurant will also provide banquet and wedding facilities. The facility previously operated as an inn as well as a fine dining establishment; guest rooms at The Gelston House will reopen at a later date.

The Gelston House, owned by Goodspeed Musicals, is being leased by Dedusaj. Reservations and information are available at 800-873-1411.
