37th Annual “Christmas Revels”
Celebrates Winter Solstice December 14 - 30

Family and friends will once again come together to celebrate the season at the 37th annual Christmas Revels! This winter, under the guidance of Artistic Director Patrick Swanson, Revels travels from Harvard’s historic Sanders Theatre to the region known as the Balkans, where the company will mark the season with singing, dancing and colorful folk traditions from Bulgaria, Slovenia, Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia.

Founded in 1971 by musician and educator John Langstaff, Revels produces large-scale seasonal and community celebrations drawing on traditional music, dance, rituals, and folk tales from around the world.

This year’s production features a talented ensemble of more than 80 performers. Joining the Revels Chorus of adults and children will be Boston’s celebrated world music ensemble, Libana, Bulgarian dancer and choreographer Petre Petrov performing with the young Balkan dance ensemble Mladost, gaida (bagpipe) player Patrick Yacono, musician David Coffin with the Pinewoods Morris Men and Cambridge Symphonic Brass Ensemble. Actress Debra Wise, artistic director of Underground Railway Theatre, joins Revels again as Narrator.

Audience members will sing 3-part carols and rounds with the cast, witness exotic Balkan traditions, enjoy a seriously funny Mummers Play featuring mythological Balkan characters and, before Intermission, join hands and dance out of the theater for the joyous Revels' signature piece Lord of the Dance.

Founded in 1971 by musician and educator John Langstaff, Revels produces a full schedule of large-scale seasonal and community celebrations drawing on traditional music, dance, rituals, and folk tales from around the world.

Sanders Theatre is located in Memorial Hall at 45 Quincy Street in Cambridge. For information and tickets, stop by the Harvard box office at 1350 Massachusetts in Cambridge, call 617-496-2222 or visit www.revels.org.
