Boston Conservatory Theatre
Presents World Premiere
Of "Heaven & Hell"

The Boston Conservatory Theater Ensemble will present the world premiere of "Heaven & Hell—The Fantastical Temptation of The 7 Deadly Sins," a musical conceived for the stage by Jason Slavick, based on the album Heaven & Hell by Joe Jackson and presented with permission of Sony Classical, March 7–11, at The Boston Conservatory Theater, 8 The Fenway in Boston.

Jackson’s "Heaven & Hell" uses the classical concept of the Seven Deadly Sins to explore the human condition, highlighting its paradoxes and humor.  In this stage version, Jackson’s musical images are brought to life with grotesque costumes, vivid imagery and evocative dance.

Slavick commented, “I was drawn to this work because the contrasts are so compelling.  It looks at the light and dark sides of the sins in a way that I think has particular currency.  It tears open the skin of contemporary society, exposing the seething entrails of our own vices.  And it is also very funny.”

Joe Jackson is best known for his pop music career, which includes such hits as “Is She Really Going Out with Him?,” “Steppin’ Out” and “It’s Different for Girls.” Unwilling to be categorized as solely a pop artist, Jackson has recorded music in many different styles, from jazz to classical to R&B.

"Heaven and Hell" will be directed by Slavick, who has guest directed several shows for The Boston Conservatory Theater Division.  He is a former company member at Boston Theatre Works, where he directed last season’s critically acclaimed "Othello" (Best of 2006 in The Boston Phoenix and The Boston Globe), as well as most of BTW’s other Shakespeare productions.
