"Twelve Angry Men"

The Roundabout Theatre Company's Broadway hit "Twelve Andry Men" will come to The Colonial Theatre for a limited run from November 7 - 19. Written by Reginald Rose and directed by Scott Ellis, the searing courtroom drama stars Richard Thomas (Juror #8) and George Wendt (Juror #1).

The Roundabout's New York presentation of "Twelve Angry Men" marked the first time the show was ever seen on Broadway. It's record-breaking run earned three Tony Award nominations and unanimous praise from critics and audiences alike.

In this classic drama, a young delinquent awaits sentencing for the manslaughter of his agressive father. Twelve jurors are corralled in a room for their deliberations. One juror feels that there is "reasonable doubt," to the frustration of his eleven colleagues. And so a quick verdict is prevented.

During the heated debate that follows, hidden preconceptions and assumptions are revealed. When faced with playhing the hangman, each juror is forced to face himself.

"Twelve Angry Men" was originally written as a teleplay for CBS's 1954 drama series, "Studio One." The story was subsequently made into a major motion picture in 1957. Playwright Reginald Rose, who would go on to create the popular television series "The Defenders," wrote a stage version of his original script in 1964.

Richard Thomas, who originally gained prominence on the television series "The Waltons," has built a highly successful stage career, appearing both on Broadway and with respected theatre companies across the country. He most recently appeared in the Roundabout's Broadway production of "A Naked Girl On The Appian Way." He was previously seen in Michael Frayn's "Democracy," "As You Like It" in Central Park and in Terrence McNally's "The Stendhal Syndrome."

George Wendt will forever be known to Boston audiences as Norm Peterson on "Cheers." Beginning his career with The Second City, Chicago's famed improvisational company troupe, Wendt has appeared in such feature films as "Forever Young," "Fletch," "Guilty By Suspicion" and "Outside Providence." He previously appeared in David Mamet's "Lakeboat" and frequently performs on stage in New York, Los Angeles and his native Chicago.

The national tour of "Twelve Angry Men" premiered in New Haven on September 19 and will continue on to such major markets as Atlanta, Washington D. C., Chicago, Seattle, Philadelphia and Miami in addition to its Boston engagement.
