North Shore Music Theatre
Presents "Hairspray"
In Regional Theatre Premiere

Performances October 24 - November 19

Plus . . . You Could Be Part Of The Show!

North Shore Music Theatre will conclude its 2006 musical season with the regional theater premiere of "Hairspray," Broadway's "Welcome To The 60's" hit. NSMT is the first regional theater in the country to create an original production of this 1960’s musical comedy.

The winner of 8 Tony Awards, "Hairspray" features a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. Performances at the Beverly theatre-in-the-round are October 24 – November 19.

Based on the 1988 John Waters film, "Hairspray" takes audiences back to 1960’s Baltimore to join heroine Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big dreams and even bigger hair. She'll do whatever it takes to claim a spot on a popular TV dance show, win the heart of hunky Link Larkin, and turn the town upside down in her efforts to racially integrate television.

As a bonus, one lucky patron will have the chance to win a walk-on role for the performance on November 9, courtesy of Danversbank. No audition is required to enter. Simply visit any Danversbank branch office for an entry form to win the coveted role. Other prizes include an autographed cast poster and tickets to the show.

Winners will be selected on October 27.  The walk-on role winner will be instructed to report to the NSMT Costume Shop to be fitted for an authentic 60’s style "Hairspray" costume with plenty of time to prepare for the November 9th performance. Speaking about the regional premiere, Jon Kimbell, NSMT’s Artistic Director and Executive Producer commented, “We have built a strong reputation both regionally and nationally for taking Broadway musicals and tailoring them for the regional theater market. The licensing companies who grant us these exclusive rights trust our integrity and artistic vision. From the orchestrations to the costumes to the casting and the production values, it's a process we are proud of and a responsibility we take very seriously.”

"Hairspray" will star Paul C. Vogt (left) as Edna Turnblad, the role he recently played in the Las Vegas production of the show. Audiences will remember Vogt from his work on “MADtv” and as the breakout star of NBC's “The Rerun Show” in which he played another Edna -- Mrs. Edna Garrett from “The Facts of Life.”  He recently appeared in Garry Marshall's "Happy Days: The Family Musical!" and made his opera debut in the LA Opera production of "The Grand Duchess."  In addition to many regional theatre credits, he can be seen in the films "Princess Diaries 2," "Good Boy" and "Raising Helen."  His other television credits include roles on “Arrested Development,” “Reno 911” and “Chicago Hope.”

Playing heroine Tracy Turnblad will be Bridie Carroll (top photo), a 2005 Boston Conservatory graduate. Bridie has recently been seen in regional productions of "Bye, Bye Birdie," "42nd Street" and "I Love A Piano."

"Hairspray" will also feature the voice-over talents of 7NEWS' Randy Price. The popular WHDH-TV news anchor previously appeared at North Shore Music Theatre with the Holiday Pops.
