Stoneham Theatre will present Mark
Brown's comically distinctive adaptation of
Jules Verne's 19th century classic adventure,
"Around the World in 80 Days" from October 19 -
November 5.
The year is 1872, and the unflappable Phileas Fogg is
about to risk his entire fortune on a £20,000 wager that he
can travel around the world in just 80 days. Accompanied by Passepartout,
his trusty French servant, Fogg sets out on a whirlwind trip encountering
stampeding elephants, raging storms, runaway trains, an Indian princess
and a Scotland Yard detective. Meeting with unforeseen challenges,
the characters take on each new obstacle with wit and humor.
Directed by Artistic Director Weylin Symes,
who directed last season's
acclaimed "A Prayer for Owen Meany," the
small ensemble cast features Steven Barkhimer as
Phileas Fogg, Christopher Brophy as Passepartout,
Eve Kagan as Actor 3, Robert Saoud
as Actor 1 and Victor Warren as Actor 2.
According to Symes, "This show is the true definition of a fast-paced,
madcap adventure! We have assembled a cast of five very talented and
versatile actors who will transform themselves into over 30 colorful
characters right before the audience's eyes and, using an exciting
blend of creative set, projection, sound, costume design, our truly
imaginative production team will transport audiences to nearly twenty
exotic locations."
