Cirque
du Soleil Is Back "Corteo" Opens September 8 At Suffolk Downs Tickets On Sale June 11 Cirque du Soleil, a long-time Boston favorite, returns to town after a two year absence to present "Corteo," an all-new show. "Corteo" will open on Friday, September 8, for a limited run at Suffolk Downs under Cirque's trademark blue-and-yellow Grand Chapiteau. "Corteo," which means "cortege" in Italian, is a joyous procession -- a parade of sorts -- imaged by a clown. The show is described as bringing together "the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat to plunge the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth."
The cast brings together more than 55 artists from 16 countries including Argentina, Armenia, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, France, Italy, Israel, Kenya, Romania, Russian, Spain, and the United Kingdom, the United States and the Ukraine. Once again, the limits of acrobatics will be challenged as creator/director Daniele Finzi Pasca lends his unique touch to Cirque du Soleil's spectacular performances. Since its debut in April of 2005 in Montreal, "Corteo" has visited 8 cities throughout Canada and the United States. Prior to its Boston performances, the show will played limited engagements in New York and Chicago. Cirque Club members may purchase exclusive seating now via www.cirquedusoleil.com. Club membership is free and available immediately. Tickets for the general public will be on sale on Sunday, June 11, and may be purchased by call 1-800-678-5440 or online at www.cirquedusoleil.com. -- OnStage Boston 06/03/06
