"Cats"
Celebrates Its Silver Anniversary

Coming To The Opera House in February

Having revolutionized musical theater with its innovative presentation of the stories of T. S. Eliot, "Cats" is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Now & Forever" phenomenon will be making a stop in Boston at The Opera House from February 20 - 25 as part of the Lexus Boston Area Dealers Broadway Across American-Boston series.

"Cats" exploded into the history books as a mega-musical on May 11, 1981, when it opened to cheers at the New London Theatre in London's West End. It eventually become the longest running musical in the history of British theatre.

In 1982, "Cats" made the leap to Broadway, opening at the Winter Garden Theatre where, in 1997, it became the longest running musical in Broadway history. "Cats" ended its New York run on September 10, 2000. Five continents, 26 countries, more than 8 million audience members and 25 years later, "Cats" is still going strong.

Based on Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, and with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, "Cats" went on to win seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Lighting and Best Costumes.
