Cole Porter's "You Never
Know" Stoneham Theatre will open its 2006-2007 season with "You Never Know," the Cole Porter musical farce of pre-Depression dandies and mistaken identities. Performances are September 14 – October 1. The production will be directed by Caitlin Lowans. "You Never Know" was written by Porter in 1929 and produced in Europe in 1936 as a European-style chamber musical before the Schubert Brothers stepped in and made some changes. They had the book rewritten then added a large chorus, showgirls and several new songs by other composers in preparation for the show's Broadway premiere two years later. Stoneham Theatre will present an adaptation
created in 1991 by Rowland Leigh and Paul
Lazarus for a star-studded production at The
Pasadena Playhouse. This adaptation reverts back to Porter’s
original vision of a lighthearted piece about an upstairs/downstairs
case of mistaken identity with romance and seduction gone awry. Note that the 4 p.m. performance on Saturday, September 16, will be Pay What You Want! These tickets will be sold one hour prior to the performance, on the day of performance only. All sales are cash only, correct change only. This offer may not be combined with any other offers. The 4 p.m. performance on September 16 will also be ASL Interpreted. Contact Christopher Webb at christopher@stonehamtheatre.org for tickets or ASL information.
