"Ragtime" Team Appears To Benefit New Rep

On May 9, New Repertory Theatre will hold its annual gala fundraiser, this year entitled, "Make Them Hear You: The Songs of Ahrens and Flaherty."

Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, special guests for the event, will provide commentary and reflection on their extensive repertoire, as a group of New Rep favorites performs selections from the Ahrens/Flaherty songbook. The gala begins at 6:00 PM, and all proceeds will support New Rep’s programming.

Lyricist Lynn Ahrens and composer Stephen Flaherty are the acclaimed, Tony Award-winning team behind musicals such as "Ragtime," "Seussical," "A Man of No Importance," "Once on This Island," "Lucky Stiff," "Dessa Rose" and "My Favorite Year."

The performance portion of the evening, directed by Rick Lombardo, will present songs from each of these musicals, performed by Leigh Barrett, Nancy E. Carroll, Aimee Doherty, Evan Harrington, Todd Alan Johnson, Austin Lesch, Maurice E. Parent, Robert Saoud, Kathy St. George and Stephanie Umoh.

New Rep’s gala will begin with a pre-show reception at 6:00 PM. Catered by Tables of Content, the reception will feature entertainment by Community Youth Orchestra, a prestigious ensemble of talented student musicians. Guests will have an opportunity to participate in New Rep’s silent auction, which offers prizes ranging from front row Green Monster tickets to a week in a Vermont farmhouse. Other items include a week on the shore of Maine, VIP passes to a Bonnie Raitt and Keb’ Mo’ concert, and a weekend in New York City, including tickets to "The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial."

The performance will be followed by a dessert reception, catered by Dancing Deer Baking Company and featuring a raffle, offering guests the chance to win a “cultural weekend” in New York City, which includes tickets to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, MOMA, and "Sweeney Todd" as well as a $150 gift certificate to Bar Americain.
