"Caroline," "Spider Woman" and "Five By Tenn"
Part of 2005-2006 Season at SpeakEasy Stage

SpeakEasy Stage Company's got a reason to shout this fall as their 2005-2006 season will include an eclectic range of productions from the recent Tony nominated hit, "Caroline, or Change" to Kander and Ebb’s dream-like “Kiss of the Spider Woman” and the Boston area premiere of five recently discovered one act Tennesse Williams plays.

All productions will be presented at the Roberts Studio Theatre in the Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts.

As announced by Artistic Director Paul Daigneault, SpeakEasy's fifteenth anniversary season will include the following:

"Theatre District"
By Richard Kramer
September 30 - October 29
From the writer of TV's "thirtysomething," "My So Called Life" and "Once And Again," this warm comedy explores the challenges facing a non-traditional family in today's society. When his partner's sixteen year old son moves in with them, actor-turned-restaurateur George Bridge finds he must somehow bring father and son together at risk of losing them both. "NYPD Blue's" Bill Brochtrup, who appeared in the Los Angeles production of the play, will star in this East Coast premiere.

"Kiss of the Spider Woman"
Book by Terrence McNally
Music by John Kander
Lyrics by Fred Ebb
November 4 - December 3
Winner of the 1993 Tony for Best Musical, this is Kander and Ebb's powerful tale of two men who become unlikely allies in a battle to survive in a Latin American prison. Their only escape from the torture and degradation is the fantasy world of the movies, which one vividly recreates for the other in a triumph of the human spirit.

"Five By Tenn"
By Tennessee Williams
January 27 - February 25, 2006
This is the Boston area premiere of five recently discovered one act plays offering a rare and fascinating glimpse into the development of celebrated playwright Tennessee Williams. This collection of works show the young artist finding his voice and honing his craft while exploring many of the themes to be seen later in "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "The Glass Menagerie."

"Brooklyn Boy"
By Donald Margulies
March 3 - April 1, 2006
The New England premiere of a bittersweet comedy from the author of "Collected Stories" and "Dinner With Friends." Aspiring novelist Eric Weiss sees his career suddenly skyrocket after his semi-autobiographical novel becomes a bestseller. But as his public success grows, his personal life begins to unravel. Through a series of encounters with his father, his estranged wife and a childhood friend, he is forced to decide both who is really is and what he really wants.

"Caroline, or Change"
Book and lyrics by Tony Kushner
Music by Jeanine Tesori
May 5 - June 3, 2006
Set at the time of President Kennedy's assassination in 1963, the Tony nominated "Caroline, or Change" tells the story of Caroline, a black maid working for a Southern Jewish family while struggling to raise her own children amidst the swirling social changes sweeping the country.

Of SpeakEasy's partnership with North Shore Music Theatre, Daigneault commented, "I see this collaboration very much a mentorship. The folks at North Shore really know how to put on a musical and we stand to learn a lot from working with them on this project."

North Shore's Executive Producer Jon Kimbell added, "I've been impressed with Speakeasy Stage Company's fine productions and we are proud to assist them in producing this brilliant musical that will fit perfectly in the Roberts Studio Theatre's intimate space."
