The backlot shenanigans of Brad, Angelina, and Jennifer
have nothing on the adulterous situations in the Tony Award-winning
play, "The Real Thing." The Huntington Theatre
Company's 24th Season opens Sept. 9 with this Tom Stoppard
classic about tumultuous on- and off-stage relationships, set in the
theatre world.
In Stoppard’s play, fiction mirrors reality when successful playwright
Henry takes his marriage to the breaking point and falls in love with
another actress. His wife Annie has, in turn, fallen for a married actor
with whom she stars in Henry’s play about adultery. Betrayals
mount and marriage vows disintegrate, while political loyalties and
fragile friendships are tested and everyone struggles to find “the
real thing.”
"The Real Thing" marks the Huntington's sixth production of
Tom Stoppard’s work. "Night and Day"
was the inaugural production in 1982. Others have included "On
The Razzle" (1983-84 season), "Jumpers"
(1986-87), "Travesties" (1990-91)
and "Arcadia" (1996-97).
Evan Yionoulis, who helmed "36 Views"
for the Huntington last season, will direct "The Real Thing."
Cast members include Pepper Binkley as Debbie, Matthew
Boston as Max, Rufus Collins as Henry, Meg
Gibson as Charlotte, Kate Nowlin as Annie,
Adam Saunders as Brodie, and William Thompson
as Billy.
