New Rep Opens For its final performances at its Newton location, New Rep Theatre will present Stephen Sondheim's "Into The Woods." Performances will run April 27 through May 29. New Rep will open its fall season on its new stage in Watertown. The production will reunite many of the award-winning artists who made its productions of "Sweeney Todd" and "The Threepenny Opera" memorable: Nancy E. Carroll, Todd Alan Johnson, Leigh Barrett, Evan Harrington and Paul Farwell. The company will also include Boston favorites Miguel Cervantes and Kerry Dowling. "This production of 'Into the Woods' is a celebration," says Rick Lombardo, New Rep's Producing Artistic Director. "Not only does it mark the culmination of our 20th anniversary season, but it's a fitting way to say goodbye to our space in Newton Highlands - our home for sixteen years. "Into the Woods" features the heroes and heroines of well-known fairy-tales, fallen from the pages of their stories into a modern coming-of-age parable that explores the darker side of romantic love, heroic behavior and dreams come true. Classic archetypes such as Cinderella (Aimee Doherty), Jack (of The Beanstalk fame) and his Mother (Miguel Cervantes, Kerry A. Dowling), Rapunzel (Hayley Thompson-King), Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf (Veronica J. Kuehn, Todd Alan Johnson), encounter newer characters - the Baker and the Baker's Wife (Evan Harrington, Leigh Barrett), as well as the terrifying and heart-rending Witch (Nancy E. Carroll). As the characters pursue an increasingly elusive ideal - "happily ever after" - they encounter profound lessons about love, courage, betrayal, and the need for human connection.
