“John & Jen”
At Stoneham Theatre
February 17 - March 6

On February 17, Stoneham Theatre opens its first Mainstage production of the new year with the musical “John & Jen” by Andrew Lippa (“The Wild Party”) and Tom Greenwald. “John & Jen” spans four decades of American history as it focuses on the story of one family’s journey through the second half of the 20th Century.

In the spirit of such popular television shows as "The Wonder Years" and "American Dreams," Lippa and Greenwald have woven a tale about Jen Tracy, played by Leigh Barrett, her younger brother John and (in the second act) her son John, both played by Eric Rubbe. “John & Jen” is directed by Elliott Norton Award-winner Scott Edmiston.

Over the past ten years, Andrew Lippa has earned critical acclaim as a composer, lyricist, writer, performer, arranger and producer.  The 2000 World Premiere of his musical “The Wild Party” won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical of the year, in addition to being nominated for 13 Drama Desk Awards. In 1999, he wrote the music and lyrics for three new songs in the Broadway revival of “You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” including "My New Philosophy" which Tony Award-winner Kristen Chenoweth sang during the nationwide Tony telecast.  Mr. Lippa also produced the cast recording for RCA Victor, for which he received a Grammy nomination.

In addition to his work as a composer, Andrew Lippa has worked extensively as a performer.  He has sung at Carnegie Hall, The Rainbow Room and The Supper Club, as well as in the animated feature “The Prince of Egypt,” for which he also provided vocal arrangements.
