Tennessee Williams' "Glass Menagerie"
At Lyric Stage, January 7

Lyric Stage Company of Boston continues its 31st season with Tennessee William’s “The Glass Menagerie,” directed by Elliot Norton Award winning Eric C. Engel, and featuring Norton award winners Nancy E. Carroll in her Lyric debut as Amanda, and Vincent Ernest Siders in the Lyric debut as Tom. The production runs January 7 - February 5 at Lyric Stage, 140 Clarendon Street in Boston’s Back Bay.

“The Glass Menagerie” is Tennessee Williams’ memory play offering a glimpse into the Wingfield family’s struggled to survive in 1939 St. Louis. While family matriarch Amanda clings to her dignity, son Tom reluctantly serves as breadwinner. Meanwhile, the frail Laura retreats from the world, seeking comfort in her collection of little glass animals. Will the arrival of a “gentleman caller” bring hope, or shatter the fragile home?

“The Glass Menagerie” quickly became an American classic following its 1945 Broadway run and has served as an important stage credit for such actresses as Helen Hayes, Katharine Hepburn, Maureen Stapleton, Joanne Woodward, Jessica Tandy and Julie Harris.
