New Series at New Rep
Opens with "Warfare"

New Repertory Theatre in NewtonHighlands will inaugurate a new staged-reading series with acclaimed playwright Paul Grellong's drama, "Warfare."  The reading, directed by Sam Weisman, will take place at the New Rep on Monday, October 18, at 7:00 PM. Admission is free.

Grellong's gripping new work takes place primarily in October of 1999, at the height of the Balkan warfare.  Kim Crane, a young and ambitious reporter, arrives in a stark urban hotel room to meet Jeff Cerises, her much-older lover. On the eve of departing for Kosovo, Kim intends to break off their affair, a relationship that's become increasingly dysfunctional since it began eight years earlier.

Kim, however, fails to account for Jeff's continued hold on her emotions, as well as his uncanny ability to influence her sense of morality and humanitarianism.  Trapped in an emotional deadlock, Kim and Jeff debate their affair as well as the conflict overseas, with their passions combining to create a triptych of personal and political ethics.

Paul Grellong is bringing "Warfare" to New Rep for its first staged reading.  A graduate of Brown University with a degree in playwriting, Grellong has presented work regionally at SpeakEasy Stage and Trinity Repertory Company, as well as in New York City and Los Angeles.

Weisman is directing the reading of "Warfare" prior to his beginning work on New Rep's November production of "Permanent Collection."

For information, call 617-332-1646. Although admission is free, reservations are
required.
