Cast Changes For "Gem of the Ocean"

Anthony Chisolm Assumes New Role
Eugene Lee Joins Company

Demonstrating how challenging the process of mounting a new stage production can sometimes be, The Huntington Theatre Company’s production of August Wilson’s “Gem of the Ocean” has undergone another staff change.

Anthony Chisholm, originally playing Eli, will now play the role of Solly Two Kings. He replaces actor Delroy Lindo who left the production this past week due to creative differences.

Chisholm previously portrayed Solly Two Kings in the Mark Taper Forum and Goodman Theatre productions of “Gem of the Ocean,” with The Los Angeles Daily News hailing Chisholm's as "the play's live wire. You won't want to take your eyes off the man."

Veteran stage and screen actor Eugene Lee, who recently appeared in a production of Wilson's play “Fences” at the True Colors Theatre Company in Atlanta, has joined the cast in the role of Eli.

Earlier this month, the production moved its opening back by two weeks after original director Marion McClinton withdrew from “Gem” due to health issues. Kenny Leon, who helmed the recent multi-award-winning Broadway production of “A Raisin in the Sun,” subsequently stepped in to lead the produdction.

Following its Boston run at the B. U. Theatre from September 24 - October 30, “Gem of the Ocean” is scheduled to move to Broadway. Previews are set to begin In New York at the Walter Kerr Theatre on November 4 with an official opening on November 11.
