Chamber Repertory Theatre Boston-based national touring company Chamber Repertory Theatre enters its 28th season of presenting original dramatizations of famous short stories with “Encore!” on Thursday, September 30, and “Tour De Force!” on Friday, October 8. Both performances will be presented at John Hancock Hall. The company returns in December to reprise the first two collections, adding “Ovation!” to the schedule. “Encore!” features Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell Tale Heart;” Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleep Hollow;” W. W. Jacobs’ chilling “The Money’s Paw;” Guy de Maupassant’s “The Necklace;” and Mark Twain’s "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.” The five stories represented in “Tour De Force!” are Edgar Allan Poe’s haunting “The Fall of the House of Usher,” Ambrose Bierce’s examination of a condemned man’s final moments, “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge;” Richard Connell’s tale of two hunters locked in mortal combat, “The Most Dangerous Game;” the wry wit of Saki in “The Mouse;” and O. Henry’s perfect crime gone awry, “The Ransom of Red Chief.” “Ovation!” begins with the macabre nuances found in Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado,” followed by Poe’s eerie tale of “The Black Cat;” then Saki’s comic “The Open Window;” Ronald Dahl’s “Lamb To The Slaughter;” and O. Henry’s valentine to the art of safecracking,“A Retrieved Reformation.” The schedule of performances is as follows.
