"Gizmo Love" At Wellfleet

Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater continues its 20th Anniversary Season with the World Premiere of John Kolvenbach's "Gizmo Love."

Described as "a stinging, original comedy that's a meld of Sartre and Mamet," "Gizmo Love" runs July 29 through September 4. Sam Weisman, who directed the acclaimed 2003 WHAT production of "Lobby Hero" will direct.

"'Gizmo Love' is about the nature of being an artist, and the archetypal struggle between art and commerce," explains Weisman. "It also depicts, in its surreal picture of Hollywood, how everyone involved in 'the business' really, at their core, is motivated by the need to be affirmed."

Weisman knows first hand the world of "Gizmo Love." He worked for 10 years as an actor before making the transition to directing. Along the way, he garnered three Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe Award for his television directorial work.

His credits that include more than 150 episodes of such television shows as "Family Ties," "Moonlighting," "L.A. Law" and "The Bernie Mac Show." His work in feature films includes "George of the Jungle," for which he received a British Academy Award nomination for Best Children's Movie; "The Out-of-Towners," starring Steve Martin, Goldie Hawn and John Cleese; and last summer's "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star," starring David Spade.

The cast of "Gizmo Love" includes Jason Catalano as Thomas, Jim Frangione as Max, Pedro Pascal (last seen at WHAT under the stage name Alexander Pascal in "Lobby Hero") as Ralph and John Pleshette as Manny.
