Award Winning Tony Walton
In Conversation At Goodspeed

Goodspeed Musicals and Friends of the Rathbun Library in East Haddam, CT, are joining to present a unique evening of conversation with "Where's Charley?" Tony, Oscar and Emmy-winning director, Tony Walton, on Thursday, June 24, at the Rathbun Library in East Haddam. Walton will be joined by Goodspeed Education Director, Will Rhys.

The free discussion will begin at 7:00 pm and is open to the public.  Currently in rehearsals, "Where's Charley" is scheduled to play the Goodspeed Opera House July 9 - September 25.

As part of Goodspeed's continuing education initiative, Walton and Rhys will discuss Walton's approach to "Where's Charley," his background as a designer and the differences working in film, television and on stage.

Walton's long list of credits includes direction of "The Importance of  Being Earnest" and "Major Barbara" for the Irish Repertory Theatre and Broadway designs for  "Our Town," "Annie Get Your Gun" and "Guys & Dolls" among others.

In "Where's Charley," two honorable Oxford chaps run into trouble when they try to woo their ladies without proper supervision. Misunderstandings arise when Charley's wealthy "aunt" drops by for a visit, setting off a chain of unexpected predicaments.

Originally a George Abbott star vehicle for Ray Bolger in the late 40s, the Tony Award-winning musical includes such Frank Loesser hits as "Once in Love with Amy," "My Darling, My Darling," "The New Ashmolean Marching Society and Student Conservatory Band" and more.
