American Voices Series
Concludes With
“True West”

Noted stage, TV and film actor Paul Rudd (left), Phoebe’s new husband on “Friends,” will be featured in a reading of Sam Shepard’s comedy “True War” on Monday, March 15, at 7 p.m. at The Shubert Theatre. The reading will be followed by a short question and answer sessions with director Steven Maler and the cast. "True West" is the final reading in the American Voices: Drama, Dialogue, Downtown play reading series.

American Voices, showcasing classic American works on Monday nights at The Shubert Theatre this winter, has already featured readings of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” “Fences” and “American Buffalo.”

Audience members who attend the “True West” reading are invited to attend a free acting master class presented by Suskind Young At Arts, the Wang Center’s education wing. To be held on Tuesday, March 16, at 6:00 p.m., the class will be filled on a first-come, first served basis and is open to participants of all acting abilities 16 years of age and older. Registration will be held at the Monday night reading.

“True West” features two brothers, Austin and Lee, who explore the duality of human personality while revealing man’s primal capacity for violence. In this dark comedy, the brothers must come to terms with themselves, each other and their family. Paul Rudd will play Austin, Jonno Roberts will play Lee, Will LeBow will be Saul, and Bobbie Steinbach will play Mom.

Paul Rudd continues to surprise his fans with a widely diverse series of performances on stage, screen and television. Most recently seen guest starring on NBC’s “Friends,” as Phoebe's husband, Mike Hannigan, Rudd has appeared in highly successful runs of Neil LaBute’s “The Shape of Things” in London and New York. His other stage credits include “Ancestral Voices” with Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward at the Westport Country Playhouse, the London production of Eugene O’Neill’s “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” and the New York and London productions of LaBute’s “Bash” with Calista Flockhart and Ron Eldard.

Director Steven Maler is the founding Artistic Director of Commonwealth Shakespeare Company and Resident Director at The Wang Center for the Performing Arts.
