Boston Lyric Opera Presents
“Flights of Fancy” Season

For its 2004-2005 Season, Boston Lyric Opera will present a Flights of Fancy Season, creating an exciting itinerary of fun, travel, and adventure with three operas in the subscription series and one special co-production.

The productions are:

L’Italiana in Algeri” by Gioacchino Rossini (November 3-16, 2004)

East Coast Premiere of “The Little Prince”
based on the book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Music by Rachel Portman (February 16-27, 2005)
(A co-production with The Wang Center)

“Eugene Onegin” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (March 30-April 12, 2005)

East Coast Premiere of “Flight” by Jonathan Dove (April 27-May 10, 2005)

According to General Director Janice Mancini Del Sesto, who donned a set of white feathered angel wings to meet with the press, “Boston Lyric Opera’s Flights of Fancy Season offers a first class musical and theatrical itinerary filled with adventure – but without the jet lag! With two exciting East Coast premieres, internationally acclaimed artists, and another season of citywide programs with new cultural and business partners, this is a trip audiences won’t want to go ‘stand-by’ on!”

The Flights of Fancy Season features several debuts and many returns for the BLO including: Conductor Stephen Lord; Stage Directors Colin Graham, Leon Major, and James Robinson; and singers Thomas Barrett, Lawrence Brownlee, Dorothy Byrne, Carleton Chambers, Josepha Gayer, Angela Horn, Frank Kelley, Gary Lehman, Mary Ann McCormick, Phyllis Pancella, Myrna Paris, and Keith Phares, among others. For Jonathan Dove’s “Flight,” many of the original cast from the American Premiere at Opera Theatre of St. Louis will join the BLO production.

Additionally, subtitles, projected English translations on plasma screens on both sides of the stage, will be used for all four operas. All 2004-2005 productions will be performed in the Company’s home, The Shubert Theatre, at 265 Tremont Street in Boston’s Theatre District.
