Present "Mockingbird" School Tour

Brandeis/New Rep On Tour, a program run jointly by Brandeis University and New Repertory Theatre, will present Harper Lee's "To Kill A Mockingbird" in a stage adaptation written by Christopher Sergel and touring to regional schools between February 25 and May 5.

Sponsored by Fleet, "To Kill A Mockingbird" features a cast of ten performing a ninety minute version of the Harper Lee tale, under the direction of New Rep's Producing Associate director, Adam Zahler.   Each performance is followed by a question and answer period for students and teachers.

Now in it's fourth season, Brandeis/New Rep On Tour is a part of the New Repertory Theatre/ Brandeis University Theatre Project.  It was founded to provide high quality, professional theatre performances for New England high school students along with professional experience for Brandeis graduate acting students.   Plays for Brandeis/New Rep On Tour are chosen to fit within the Massachusetts Department of Education Curriculum Frameworks.

This year Brandeis/New Rep On Tour is working with the Cultural Access Consortium to provide ASL interpretation and audio description for deaf and visually impaired audiences.   Special performances are scheduled for The Learning Center for Deaf Children in Framingham and The Perkins School in Watertown.

Target Stores, working closely with Brandeis/New Rep On Tour, is sponsoring performances in three communities with underserved populations and underwriting audio description and American Sign Language services.

As a co-producing institution for the New Repertory Theatre/Brandeis University Theater Project, the Theater Arts Program at Brandeis University ranks as one of the foremost programs of its kind in the country.

The outstanding faculty and staff include 35 professional artists of national stature who work closely with approximately 115 students each year.   The program includes 85 undergraduates who are either concentrating or minoring in Theater Arts and 49 graduate students who are receiving conservatory training in preparation for entering the profession.   For undergraduate students, the program provides a solid grounding in the history and literature of the theater, along with an appreciation of theatrical performance, production, and design.   For graduate students, including those aspiring to become actors, playwrights, or designers, the program offers more intensive training in theater technique.
