"Sly Fox" To Play Boston
In Exclusive Pre-Broadway Run

Academy Award winner Richard Dreyfuss (left) and stage and film star Eric Stoltz (below) will lead a cast of seventeen in a new Broadway production of Larry Gelbart’s comedy “Sly Fox,” in its exclusive pre-Broadway engagement at The Shubert Theatre from February 20 through March 7. The production will be directed by Arthur Penn, who helmed the original 1976 Broadway production.

Gelbart’s ingenious reimagining of Ben Jonson’s “Volpone,” is an outrageous tale of greed and guile set in San Francisco in the 1800s. Dreyfuss stars as Foxwell J. Sly, a devious con man out to rob and rich and give to himself. It’s the dawn of the Gold Rush and with everyone falling all over themselves with Gold Fever, Foxwell and his trusty assistant (played by Eric Stoltz) sets out to swindle as many as they can.

The cast of familiar names and faces will also include Bob Dishy, Rene Auberjonois, Bronson Pinchot, Rachel York, Elizabeth Berkley, Professor Irwin Corey, Nick Wayman and Peter Scolari.

Dreyfuss is best known for such films as “Mr. Holland’s Opus,” “Jaws,” “Close Encounters of The Third Kind” and “The Goodbye Girl” while Stoltz starred in “Pulp Fiction,” “Mask” and the Broadway productions of “Our Town,” “Two Shakespearean Actors” and “Three Sisters.” Musical theater fans also know that Dreyfus has just been announced to play Max Bialystock in the London production of Mel Brooks' "The Producers" later this year.

Larry Gelbart, whose television credits include the long-running series “M*A*S*H,” wrote the book for the musicals “City of Angels” and “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to The Forum” (co-author).

Arthur Penn has directed renowned Broadway productions of “The Miracle Worker,” “Toys In The Attic,” “Wait Until Dark,” “Golden Boy” and “Fortune’s Fool” among others. His 16 feature films include “Bonnie and Clyde,” “The Miracle Worker,” “Little Big Man” and “Alice’s Restaurant.”

“Sly Fox” is being presented in Boston by Jon Platt, and on on Broadway by Julian Schlossberg, Roy Furman, Ben Sprecher, Michael Gardner, Jim Fantaci, Cheryl Lachowicz and Nelle Nugent by arrangement with Andrew Braunsberg. Following the Boston run, “Sly Fox” opens for previews on March 12 at The Barrymore Theatre.

Tickets are available at The Shubert box office, 265 Tremont Street in Boston, by calling 1-800-447-7400 or at www.telecharge.com.
