Lyric Presents New England Premiere of
“The Gig”

Lyric Stage Company will present the New England premiere of Douglas Cohen’s musical “The Gig” from October 18 to November 16.

Based on the Frank D. Gilroy film of the same name, “The Gig” tells the story of a used car salesman, a dentist, a real estate agent, a financial advisor, a deli owner and a music teacher who get together once a week to play jazz. When the get a two week gig in the Catskills, they shed their ordinary lives and begin an adventure that reveals truths about friendship, the joy of music and the ultimate importance of dreams.

“The Gig” received the 1994 Richard Rodgers Development Award and was subsequently presented in New York via a three week staged reading at the Manhattan Theatre Club.

The production at Lyric will be directed and choreographed by Stewart F. Lane who received Tony Awards for producing “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “The Will Rodgers Follies” and “La Cage Aux Folles.”

As an interesting side note, Lane co-owns the Palace Theatre in New York. He also owns The Tribeca Grill Restaurant with Robert DeNiro.
