Lyric Opera
will present the first fully staged opera on Boston Common when it presents
two free performances of “Carmen “ on Friday
and Saturday, September 20 and 21. Showtime is 7 P.M.
Conducted by BLO Music Director Stephen Lord and directed
by BLO Artistic Director Leon major, this two and a half
hour version of George Bizet’s “Carmen” will be sung
in English with English text projected on large TV monitors.
This special open air production will mark the finale of the BLO’s
25th Anniversary Season. Known for its multicultural casting, “Carmen”
features Jossie Perez as Carmen, John Bellemer
as Don Jose, Guiping Deng as Micaela and Robert
Honeysucker as Escamillo.
BLO will also sponsor a Family Day event on Saturday September 21 on Boston
Common from 1 to 5 P.M. Kids will have an opportunity to explore the arts
with a carnival of games, music and drafts. Showing their support for
the BLO, several of Boston’s outstanding cultural groups have created
artistic activities for Family Day. They include Boston Public
Library, Boston Symphony Orchestra, The Children’s Museum, The Huntington
Theatre Company, ParkARTS, the Wang Center’s Suskind Young at Arts,
WGBH and Young Audiences of Massachusetts.
