Focuses on “Hairspray”

A TV alert that this weekend's "Best of Theater Talk" on WGBH/Boston will air back-to-back episodes focusing on the Tony Award-winning musical “Hairspray,” the national tour of which opens at Boston’s Colonial Theatre next month.

At 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, on WGBH-Channel 44, “Theater Talk” will repeat this season's earlier broadcast showcasing “Hairspray’s” Tony Award-winning composer/lyricist Marc Shaiman and lyricist Scott Wittman, along with featured performers from the Broadway cast, Jackie Hoffman and Tony winning Dick Latessa.

The broadcast airing at 1:30 p.m. will feature actor/playwright Harvey Firestein, the Tony Award-winning star of “Hairspray’s” Broadway cast. His role of Edna Turnblad is being played on tour and in Boston by Bruce Vilanch.

“Theater Talk,” which originates in New York, is hosted by Michael Riedel and Susan Haskins.
