A "Modern Millie" Who's Who

The national tour of "Thoroughly Modern Millie," coming to the Wang this October, has just kicked off in Missouri. Musical Theatre fans will be interested in knowing who's who in the company.

Millie, girl from the mid-West plunked down in the big city, is being played by Darcie Roberts, recently seen in Disney's "Aida." Jimmy, her love interest, will be played by Matt Cavanaugh, who's six-pack set of abs set hearts a-flutter in the musical version of "Urban Cowboy." Broadway aficionados will remember that "Cowboy" opened this past winter, announced an immediate closing, continued to play and then closed anyway. While the show was not necessarily embraced, Matt was warmly received.

Mrs. Meers, the "Sad To Be All Alone In The World" landlady with a taste for white slavery, is being played by Hollis Resnik. Miss Dorothy (Mary Tyler Moore in the film) will be played by Diana Kaarina, late of "Les Miz."

Based on the film of the same name, "Millie" won the 2002 Tony as Best Musical. Two numbers from the original film (the title song and "Jimmy") are included in the stage version. New musical material is by Dick Scanlan and Jeanine Tesori.

In the Broadway company, Tony Award winning Sutton Foster regularly stopped the show with her full-out "Gimme, Gimme." Other fun numbers include "What Do I Need With Love" (a solo for Jimmy) and a bouncy, tap-dancing "Forget About The Boy," done by the lady stenographers of the company.

As on Broadway, Michael Mayer is directing and Tony-winning Rob Ashford is choreographing.
