"Urinetown" At The Colonial

Tony Winning Musical Opens January 6

“Urinetown: The Musical,” winner of the 2002 Tony Triple Crown (Best Music & Lyrics, Best Book and Best Direction), comes to Boston on January 6, 2004, for a limited two week run at The Colonial Theatre. The national tour is being directed by John Rando, who directed the original production.

A show that both spoofs and celebrates the best of Broadway traditions, “Urinetown” is set in a near-future where water depletion has led to a ban on private toilets. In the midst of this water-shortage crisis, two kids who fall in love. Ultimately, it’s all about greed, corruption, love and revolution in a city where H20 is worth its weight in gold.

Starring as the avuncular narrator Officer Lockstock is Tom Hewitt, who received Tony and Drama Desk nominations for his role in “The Rocky Horror Show” on Broadway. Ron Holgate, winner of a Tony for his performance in “1776,” plays villainous Caldwell B. Caldwell. Penelope Pennywise will be played by Beth McVey, who was last seen on Broadway as Mrs. Potts in “Beauty& The Beast.” Christine Noll, who enchanted Broadway audiences for her work in “Jekyll & Hyde,” plays Caldwell’s naive daughter, Hope.
