Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer
and Charlotte Church Broadway’s “Fair Lady,” Captain Von Trapp and one of the world’s brightest new singing talents will join forces to appear in one of the largest holiday extravaganzas ever produced when "A Royal Christmas" comes to the FleetCenter on Sunday, December 15. Performance time is 3 p.m. Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer and Charlotte Church will lead an international cast of 150 dancers, singers and musicians including London's Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra conducted by George Daugherty, the Westminster Concert Choir and the Westminster Bell Choir. "A Royal Christmas" will offer the season's most popular songs & carols, beloved holiday tales, and the excitement of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" ballet, all in one afternoon of glorious holiday entertainment. The program of holiday favorites will feature Andrews and Plummer leading the audience through time-honored Christmas melodies. The audience will also join the entire cast in a grand finale sing-along of Christmas and holiday standards, plus selections from “The Sound of Music.” Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, Dame Julie Andrews is one of the most beloved performers of all time. From starring roles in "My Fair Lady," "The Sound of Music," "Mary Poppins," “Victor/Victoria” and "Camelot" to the recent Disney smash film "The Princess Diaries," Andrews' shining success and universal popularity is unparalleled. Last year President Bush presented Andrews with the prestigious Kennedy Centers Honors, America's highest artistic award. Her lengthy list of achievements span numerous theatrical and entertainment honors including the Academy Award for "Mary Poppins." In "A Royal Christmas," Julie Andrews will recite from Christmas classics such as "A Night Before Christmas" accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic and the Westminster Choir and Bell Choir. Despite Julie Andrews’ recent vocal problems, she will reportedly sing with the cast, although no solos are planned. Christopher Plummer, recently hailed by The New York Times "as the most accomplished classical actor in North America" for his portrayal of King Lear at Canada's Stratford Festival, now turns his phenomenal talent to the role of Scrooge from Dickens "A Christmas Carol." In addition to Plummer's two Emmy Awards, two Tony's and numerous other distinguished accolades including Canada's Genie Award, Queen Elizabeth II recently invested Plummer as Companion of the Order of Canada, an honorary Knighthood. Plummer won extensive acclaim for his film portrayal as Mike Wallace in "The Insider" and has most recently completed starring in Doug McGrath's adaptation of "Nicholas Nickleby" to be released by United Artists next year. Sixteen-year-old
superstar Charlotte Church will lend her sparkling voice
to favorite holiday carols and songs. With more than 10,000,000
albums sold world wide, Charlotte Church's career is often compared to
the early years of Julie Andrews. Charlotte Church's PBS programs
have ranked among the network's most successful and popular. Tickets, priced at $45, $65, $85 and $95, are available at the FleetCenter Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, by calling 617-931-2000 or online via www.fleetcenter.com.
