“Beauty& The Beast” Returns

Five Week Run Begins December 3

Disney’s Tony Award-winning musical, “Beauty & The Beast,” will return to Boston for a limited 5-week engagement at The Colonial Theatre. Performances are December 3 through January 4, 2003.

The stage version of the musical features the animated film’s Academy Award-winning score with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by the late Howard Ashman. The stage show also includes one number written for, but not heard in the film -- “Human Again.”

“Beauty” is the classic children’s tale of Belle, a young woman in a quaint provincial town, and The Beast, a young prince trapped in a spell by an evil enchantress. The spell can only be broken if the Beast learns to love another and earn their love in return. If not, he will remain a Beast --forever.

Disney’s “Beauty & The Beast” has become a international sensation playing to more than 17 million people worldwide. The Broadway company is now in its eighth year.

Sparing no expense, Disney has secured the talents of Ann Hould-Ward (“Sunday In The Park With George” and “Into The Woods”) to design the costumes while lighting is by Natasha Katz (“Gypsy” and “Peter Pan”).

As well, many of the show’s special effects have been developed by Jim Steinmeyer and John Gauhan, who have invented effects performed by David Copperfield, Seigfried & Roy, Harry Blackstone and others.

Tickets are available at the Colonial box office, 106 Bolyston Street in Boston, at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling 617-931-2787.

Student and Senior Citizen Rush Tickets will be sold on the day of performance, one hour before to curtain. Rush tickets are limited to one per person with valid ID, subject to availability and are not available for Saturday evening performances.
