Cabaret Nights at SpeakEasy Stage

SpeakEasy Stage Company, already chalking up kudos for its legit stage productions, is edging into the cabaret market as well.

Two of their upcoming evenings include:

The extraordinary Belle Linda Halpern in "The Love Songs of Rogers and Sondheim." Belle is known to SpeakEasy audiences for her winning performances in "Songs for a New World" by Jason Robert Brown and "Putting It Together" by Stephen Sondheim, both presented in concert at the Copley Theatre.

Belle's solo evening of cabaret entertainment will be presented at the intimate Boston Center for the Arts Theatre on October 12, 14 and 15. Musical direction is by Ron Roy.

Next up will be "I Remember You - Jazz Meets Cabaret" as David Thorne Scott brings a touch of jazz to the SpeakEasy Cabaret Series, also at the Boston Center for the Arts. Performances are October 19, 21 and 22. With an autumnal flavor, Dave will swing through a set of classic songs by Richard Rodgers, Vernon Duke, Billy Strayhorn. Paul Simon and others.

Scott, who teaches jazz singing at the Berklee College of Music, will be joined at the BCA by fellow Berklee professor Mark Shilansky at the piano and Garth Stevenson on the double bass.

Tickets for either show are more than reasonably priced at $12 ($10 for students, seniors, and BACA members). Boston Center for the Arts is located at 539 Tremont Street in Boston's South End.
