I Love A Parade

How'd ya like to sing on Broadway (the street -- not the euphemism).

Camp Broadway Kids will be performing Johnny Mercer's classic "Accentuate The Positive" at the 76th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! And they're looking for new voices. All performance-loving kids, aged 9-17, are invited to audition for this unique opportunity.

Auditions will be held in New York City on Saturday, October 19, and in our relative backyard, in Providence, on Sunday, October 20.One hundred and twenty aspiring young singers will be able to wave to their friends, wow a national audience, sing a song by one of America's best-loved songwriters and have a great experience in the process!

The lucky winners will participate in a two-day educational program on Saturday and Sunday, November 16 and 17, presented by Camp Broadway and The Johnny Mercer Foundation. The team will present a series of workshops, classes and rehearsals to introduce this new generation to Johnny Mercer and the Great American Songbook while preparing them for their national performance debut on Macy's new float, the Marion-Carol Showboat.

Local auditions will be held at the Providence Performing Arts Center, 220 Weybosset Street. Ages 14-17 will be scheduled at 11 a.m., - Ages 9-13 will audition at 2 p.m. All kids should be prepared to learn a dance routine and sing 16 bars of a song. Videotaped submissions will also be accepted at Camp Broadway through Friday, October 18.

If accepted, the participation fee for this program is $325.00 (not including costume). To download an application or for all the information about Camp Broadway go to www.campbroadway.com.
